This edition of “Where in the World is Crane Tech?” finds us at the Port of Gulfport, Mississippi working for the Gulfport Stevedoring Association. What makes this trip so exciting? They have three brand-new ZPMC 100-long ton dockside container cranes and Crane Tech is providing classroom and hands-on training for the six men who will operate these cranes.
While Crane Tech was on-site, last week, there was a Blessing of the Cranes by Mississippi Governor, Phil Bryant and other local officials. The arrival of the cranes was a momentous milestone in the Port’s restoration project as part of the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. The cranes represent an over $30 Million investment in the Port’s infrastructure and will enable existing and future tenants to more effectively service their vessels.
The cranes have a 310-ft trolley travel range and 170-ft vertical lift. The cab is located at 125-ft and provides a bird’s eye view for the ship-to-shore and shore-to-ship handling of 65-LT intermodal containers.
Crane Tech was proud to provide instruction to these operators to educate them in proper and safe crane operation and material handling procedures.
