Seat Time for Certification

We were recently asked, “Can a new operator practice with a certified operator standing by?” Here are our thoughts on the subject:

Yes, absolutely a person training to be a mobile crane operator can operate the crane with a certified operator by their side.  In fact, at Crane Tech we think this is a great practice, as long as the operator-in-training has been properly educated regarding mobile crane operations. Banner or Sail? You Be The Judge

We love seeing our country’s flag flown at sporting events, advertisers want us to see their messages on  banners, workers want to be comfortable in the sun. When it comes to hanging something from your aerial/scissor lifts or adding attachments for comfort, the answer is, just DON’T DO IT!

Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), also known as Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP), were created to perform temporary work at height when used properly by trained personnel. While they are built to lift and carry loads under various conditions, there are also limitations. (more…)

2nd Generation Operator Turns Instructor

Eric Glaubius didn’t necessarily want to follow in his father’s foot steps and be a crane operator. After five years of working on sites as an oiler, rigger, doing assembly/disassembly and driving pile, it was time… but Eric’s father didn’t make it easy on him. Eric actually had to take a cut in pay to go to work with his father and start learning how to operate. The rest, as they say, is history.

Now after 18 years of operating, and 14 years of those with his NCCCO certification, Eric is ready to get out of the seat and take a stand as Crane Tech’s newest instructor. To get to know Eric better, our marketing manager sat down with him, here’s a synopsis of what ensued. (more…)

Wire Rope Clips 101

Wire Rope Clips can have lots of helpful uses – they are a simple fitting that can be easily used in the field or shop.  Sometimes called a u-bolt or u-bolt clip, they can be used to join two wire rope ends together, make an eye for a pulling application, or to secure the loose end of a wire rope after a wedge socket (or other appropriate device) has been used to terminate a crane’s hook.

But using clips to create wire rope slings for overhead lifting is NOT one of their many uses. (more…)

We Are Growing Again

It’s our 40th year, and we are busier than ever, so much so, that it is time to expand our team again. We are looking for another high-quality instructor to help us support our clients across the nation. The right candidate will not only be experienced in crane and rigging operations but be passionate about safety and sharing knowledge with others.

Here are some basic qualifications:

  • Applicants must have extensive mobile crane operating experience; over 15 years of telescopic and lattice boom operator experience is preferred.
  • Applicants must have their NCCCO mobile crane operator certification in at least one area (TSS, TLL, TBT or LBC).
  • Previous training/instructional experience is not required, but applicant must possess willingness and ability to learn instructional techniques.
